FAQ

Youth Festival Hackathon

WHAT IS HACKATHON?

A hackathon is a marathon coding session with a key purpose of getting stuff done.

Participants, referred to as “hackers”, come armed with ideas on what they want to build. They meet up with other participants and form teams to hack together software based on their ideas.

WHAT IS MAKEWEEKEND HACKATHON?

An Invitation-Only Hackathon. Only the crème de la crème of developers and designers are selected to participate.

Hackers? They’re called “hackers” due to their skill and speed in which they can hack together working solutions to problems.

Converting Ideas Into Reality – All in 24 Hours! Hackers converge to convert ideas into reality (working apps, tools and software). After 24 hours, they’re required to present a live demonstration (Demo) of their working prototypes or products – with NO presentation slides!

CAN I STILL APPLY IF I DON’T HAVE A TEAM?

Yes. Please apply as an individual applicant. We will help match you up if you were selected.

WILL THIS TAKES UP MY WHOLE WEEKEND?

Yes, but your weekend will be filled with meeting talented and passionate developers, exchanging coding secrets, fun entertainment to refresh you up and generous supply of foods and snacks to munch on.

WHAT SHOULD I PACK?

Your machine. Also remember your power cables, mouse, your favourite pair of headphones and if you really need it perhaps an additional monitor.

Comfy wear, because if you are going to be in it for a little more than 24 hours and we all know there is nothing worse than being stuck in something stuffy. Slippers, shorts and tees are perfectly acceptable. It gets cold later at night so you might want to pack a sweater or a travel blanket.

Toiletries come in handy for overnight hacking. There will be shower spaces available this time around. So bring along your toiletries, a small towel and any extras that you might need.

Medication for those of you that have pre-existing medical conditions. If there is something that the organizers need to look out for please give us a heads up.

Connection tools should be packed too as you will be meeting a lot of new people– name cards will come in handy. You could alternatively sign up for http://radd.me the contact sharing application and save some trees.

WHAT TO EXPECT
